Getting to know you, getting to know all about you . . . the character Anna sings in “The King and I.” That song comes to mind as I realize that my sector of West Harlem didn’t exactly want to know the people we heard were going to be our new neighbors, as I wrote last winter. But what we’d heard was not correct.
The Dorothy Day building is something else. In spite of the foolish notions we had, Broadway Housing Communities kept its eyes on the prize and christened 583 Riverside Drive The Dorothy Day Apartments in honor of the Catholic social activist who believed the poor and working classes deserved to live in wholesome environments…
