Faith Ringgold, born In 1930 in Harlem Hospital, celebrated her 78th birthday at the Rio II Gallery at an event sponsored by Broadway Housing Communities at their Dorothy Day Apartments site, Riverside Drive at 135th Street on the seventh floor, with the gallery’s spectacular view of the George Washington Bridge.
Ms. Ringgold began her artistic career more than 35 years ago as a painter. Her art combines painting, quilted fabrics and storytelling. She has exhibited in major museums in the USA, Europe, South America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and her works are in the permanent colelctions of museums nationwide, including the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
