This past Fri., Mar.16th, New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Wintergarden plaza served as the setting for a Women’s History Month celebration that honored ten remarkable women and their work in northern Manhattan’s in the industries of culture, non-profit work, government, education, and journalism.
The event was hosted and organized jointly by New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat and New York City Councilmember Ydanis Rodriguez. “We come here tonight to honor women of all walks of life from sectors, such as communications, government, commerce and all those who have served this community,” said Senator Espaillat, who has hosted an event for Women’s History Month for sixteen years.
And while the evening was dedicated to touting the accomplishment of women, Ana Ofelia Rodriguez, Director of Community Development at Broadway Housing Communities, acknowledged that men too are instrumental in the cause.
“I had a father that said that I could anything that I set my mind to. He cared for me greatly, [and] his influence has made me substantial. A great woman needs a great father, a great-leader, great parents overall,” said Rodriguez.
